Commemorate the 90th anniversary of the legendary Supermarine Spitfire’s first flight with this beautifully illustrated 250 XL-piece jigsaw puzzle by artist Matthew Emeny.
Set in the Cambridgeshire countryside in spring 1940, just months before the Battle of Britain, the nostalgic scene shows a mother and her four children enjoying a peaceful picnic and watching steam trains while their father serves in the war.
As a J15 Class LNER steam locomotive approaches, three Mk1 Spitfires from RAF Duxford’s No.19 Squadron soar overhead. Leading the formation is the historic Spitfire Mk.1 N3200, flown by Squadron Leader Geoffrey Stephenson. The aircraft took part in the Dunkirk evacuation before being damaged and buried on Sangatte beach in May 1940. Recovered in 1986 and restored at the Imperial War Museum Duxford, N3200 returned to the skies in 2014.
