Kereru
The Kereru is a large, native forest dweller of New Zealand and is a valuable asset to native bush regeneration. They are especially important to the Maori culture because they play a vital role in dispersing the seeds of certain trees, like tawa. The fruits of this tree grow too big to be dispersed by other birds. However, the Kereru has the largest gape of all New Zealand native birds, allowing it to eat large berries and spread the seeds, growing our ecosystem.
