This medium will be familiar to those who have used Oleopasto. To promote rapid thorough drying in thick layers of oil paint add at least one part Smooth Gel to 2 parts paint. The medium is cheaper than paint so reduces cost.
MORE IMPORTANT:
If the artist wants to work on top of thickly applied oil paint it must be thoroughly dry before over painting and additions of Smooth Gel will ensure drying throughout a thick layer of paint. This medium is also useful for layers of medium thickness because it makes oil paint easier to brush out but retains texture. It also makes wet-on-wet techniques easier to carry out.
"Open time" is only a few hours before it starts to set up. - 300ml - All these specialised Mediums are based on Alkyd Resins rather than Stand Oil or Linseed Oil so as to improve the drying characteristics and reduces the tendency to yellow. All these Mediums will maintain a similar degree of flexibility throughout the layers of a painting.
